3d connexion space navigator not recognized

Post by myklgrant » Thu Nov 25, 2010 11:38 pm

I'm evaluating craft animation for maya 2011 specifically for the camera movement tools. When i load the observercam it does not recognize my Space Navigator 3D mouse. I choose the 3dxmouse profile and all it loads is the wacom profile (I have an intuos tablet as well). I have tried disconnecting the wacom, stopping the 3dx maya plugin all to no avail. I can choose the camera and move it with the 3d mouse but all I get is the standard 3d mouse movements, not the observercam movements. Any ideas?

Hi, and welcome to the forum!

There are two things you need to check: First, after loading the profile, do you see that the input devices have been properly binded? You should see it in the input list that each property (move forward, yaw, etc) has a text mentioning space navigator or similar. If it's an empty field it has not been able to detect the mouse.

Try bind the controls manually. For each property, select the device in the device combo box, then select which control on the device to bind to.
Or is the space navigator missing from the device list?

Second, after you press record, you need to have the Director Studio interface in focus, not the host application. Otherwise the host application will snatch the input signals and you will control the camera through 3dconnexions plug-in rather than ours.

Let me know if this helps!

Micael,

Thanks for your reply.
I don't get the choice of space navigator when I load the 3dxmouse profile. the only choices on the dropdown are "wacom and "none". Since I can't choose 3d space navigator I can't manually bind the movements to the 3d mouse. Director Studio does not recognize my Space Navigator at all. Maya still accepts inputs from my 3d mouse directly though. I can choose the Observer Cam and move it about as I can with a regular camera.

well - i should have added that sometimes there is an option to choose the space navigator

in the meantime i've explored that craft loads the 3dxsrv.exe when starting the plugin. after a few records the record freezes and i'm not able to navigate with the space navigator.
when i restart the driver i can navigate within maya with every cam as usual - but the craft plugin doesn't work anymore.

hope someone can help
otherwise i have to stop using the space navigator within craft / maya - pretty baaaad ;(

hope to hear from you

Try see if you have another 3dconnexion-based plugin for Maya installed, and try have that uninstalled/disabled. 3DConnexion provide their own plugin for using their mice for controlling the viewport, and CDS may conflict with it.
