3D Space Explorer is very unreliable

Hi,

I have a 3D connexion space explorer, after installing the craft director plugin, I create a helicopter, select the 3Dxprofile and I can fly it around. I then stop recording, move the timeline back to the beginning and start recording again and there is no input from the SpaceExplorer. I try restarting the plugin and the SpaceExplorer has gone from the input device drop down. I restart Maya and the plugin, same effect. I restart the PC, on the first load of Maya the SpaceExplorer is in the drop down, but not input to the helicopter. Selecting Detect in the input window confirms this as I can't detect any axis.

I have checked 3dxdevice.dll is in C:\Program Files\Craft Animations\directorstudio\data\unidevice\drivers\win\x86 . Reinstalling cds allowed the plugin to work but only briefly as above.

I am running Maya 2009 and 3Dx driver 3.10.1

Please Help

I think what may have happened is; when attempting to change from 'advanced military' to 'ordinary' helicopter craft crashed the 3dx driver. My attempt to fix the issue by reinstalling craft director plugin then corrupted my Maya shelf.

I have managed to fix it by deleting my maya prefs folder and restarting the 3Dx driver.

ok with further attempts it seems the 3dx driver will crash out really easily, the last time all I had to do was record an animation, watch the play back, scrub back to the beginning and try to re-record the aniamtion. When trying to start the re-record the everything hangs for a few seconds then the record starts without any input from the 3dx controller. Then I have to close Maya and stop-restart the driver and open Maya to continue. This is quite annoying.

Did you test to reinstall the driver for the 3dconnexion mouse? I have had some problems with this sometimes and that was my solution to the problem. I would also guess that it could be good to turn off the 3dconnexion driver that is in 3ds max so that the two do not disturb each other.

Yes I did, I even went to the touble of downloading a previous driver version, July's I think, to better match your development cycle. By the way it's Maya not Max. cheers.

I have tested the Space Navigator in Maya 2011 and that works just fine. I do not at the moment have any solution for you to get you up and running. Is the 3d mouse working correct for you in other uses?
