Floating Car bug

Post by Iggy » Mon Sep 20, 2010 11:38 pm

Getting the floating car bug in Max Design 2010, CDSv10.1.2. Have tried the recommended uncheck the "Use Fast Ray Cast" in "Ray Cast Parameters" but still getting it. Any other options to try? My units are setup with Feet. Ground is a editable mesh of a highway.

Thanks
Chris

OK, just made a simple plane and relinked the gravity helper and it seems to be working. Is there any rule of thumb on how the road geometry needs to be built? I will keep testing.
Thanks
Chris

As long as the ground is an editable mesh the ground is fine, but we have experienced problems with very large or very small scales for the car. Check the scaling factor of the 4-wheeler. It if's very highly scaled you might experience problems, try reset the scene scale.

Also, make sure you have the latest version of Craft Director Studio. We have made several improvements of the 4-wheeler and it's fly bug a few months ago.

Hope this helps, please get back to us otherwise.

I decided to just bring in a new 4 wheeler ext, didn't scale it at all. Just linked the gravity helper to my road mesh and it's still floating. My system units are setup in feet, and the scene is setup in feet.

I would appreciate any kind of direction, as it seems to work with simple plane?
Thanks
Chris

Overview again:
Craft Director Studio v.10.1.2 X64
3ds Max Design 2010 x64

Here is a link to my scene. Which includes the scaled up 4 Wheel ext, and the non-scaled, out of the box 4 wheel extended. Both are floating when linked to the road mesh.

Hi Iggy,

I checked the scene you sent, and there seems to be a problem with the mesh. Not that it's an problem per se, but it's somehow in a format which the tools cannot read. I double-checked by attaching a raycaster utility on the road and it doesn't detect the road either.

How have you modelled the road? Is it imported? I tried looking around for properties which deviates from a "normal" editable mesh, but i couldn't find any. I honestly cannot find out why it's unable to read the mesh.

Well we could not figure why that mesh is "unknown" basically just rebuilt it and things seem to working now. Thx for the heads up again.

It's good to hear everything was solved eventually. I wonder if it's ok for us to keep your scene, so we can study it and see what went wrong?
